Seeders’ Cup III | Week 17 Picks

Playoff Scenarios | Additional Score Potential

In The Seeders’ Cup, correct picks may award Seed Points, or “additional scoring,” if the team earns a playoff spot. The additional scores by playoff seeding are:

Clinch playoff berth (wildcard) = 2 points.
Clinch division title = 3 points.
Clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs = 4 points.
Clinch home field advantage in playoffs = 5 points.

Current playoff standings and playoff scenarios can be found online courtesy of CBS Sports.

The following teams have a chance to earn Seeder Points with a win:

Oakland = 4 or 5 points
Kansas City = 4 points
Seattle = 4 points
Detroit = 2 or 3 or 4 points
Green Bay = 2 or 3 points

That is five options, but Kansas City or Oakland will earn additional scores (not both), Seattle needs Atlanta to lose in order to score additional points, and Green Bay plays at Detroit.

Off the slate of games, New England, Atlanta, Washington, and Tampa Bay may secure playoff seeding.

See the CBS scenarios to see which other teams must lose or tie for the above teams to secure playoff seeding. Also see the nfl.com articles on the AFC playoff (no update as of 12/28) and NFC playoff race.

Chiefs win… Wise Orangutan moves into scoring range, but needs at least one more correct pick. Five Analysts struggle to the move the ball in the first quarter (1 Incorrect Pick), but they can score a Field Goal (2 Correct Picks) and Additional Points with the Cowboys, Patriots, or Seahawks on Sunday. Two Analysts are playing a late game and have time to script the first three Picks of their game!

Analysts will submit the remaining picks on Saturday.

Atwork: Vikings/Lions/Cowboys (Touchdown possible)

Race Day Notes

For the next 8 weeks The Bookie will ask an Analyst to reflect on your strategies and how they are working.

Our fourth muse will be from Kal Krome

Kal Krome: “Do you really want to take a Thursday game? That’s what I ask myself but the way I see it when I take a Thursday game and lose at least on Sunday I’m not worried about the scores and can do my chores and feed the horses while the sun is up.”

The Bookie: “Well, not this time Kal. New rules for the analyst that took the Raiders and lost. Each week will be a quarter of a football game. So this week is just the first quarter. You can still score a Field Goal with 2 correct picks!! There’s three more quarters left in this game. You’ll be watching football all day Sunday. The fat lady hasn’t sung yet!!”

Sunday Early Game Day Pick Results:

The Bookie: Ravens/Cowboys/Lions (Touchdown possible)
Big Tuna: Raiders/Cowboys/Patriots (Field Goal possible)
Little Tuna: Cowboys/Raiders/Seahawks (Field Goal possible)
Wise Orangutan: Chiefs/Seahawks/Lions (At least a Field Goal, 3 Points)

Kal Krome: Seahawks/Raiders/Giants (Field Goal possible)
B-Reezy: Lions/Raiders/Patriots (Field Goal possible)
Atwork: Vikings/Lions/Cowboys (At least a Field Goal, 3 Points)

The Strategist drives for a Field Goal (3 points) with the Vikings and Lions wins, Atwork and Wise Orangutan are in Field Goal range, with their drives for Touchdowns still possible.

With the Dolphins win over the Cardinals, the Patriots will not earn additional scores. The Seahawks can now clinch their division for three additional points with a win.

With the Lions win, the Cowboys can no longer clinch a first-round bye, so they also are worth three additional points with a win.

Kal Krome: Seahawks/Raiders/Giants
B-Reezy: Lions/Raiders/Patriots (Field Goal possible)
Atwork: Vikings/Lions/Cowboys (At least a Field Goal, 3 Points)

After the Seahawks’ drubbing in Green Bay, Little Tuna and Kal Krome will have a scoreless first quarter as they both make two Incorrect Picks (InPs!).

Earlier in the day, The Strategist drove for a Field Goal (3 points) with the Vikings and Lions wins. Wise Orangutan’s drive stalls as the Packers sink the Hawks, so he also settles for a Field Goal (3 points).

Tonight, three Analysts pick the Cowboys to beat the Giants.

Big Tuna needs the Cowboys to win in order to get his first quarter drive going. The Bookie can move into position for a Field Goal and a second Field Goal (additional score from Cowboys division title) if the Cowboys beat the Giants.

Atwork, however, currently has the highest powered offense in the first quarter. A win by the Cowboys will net him a Touchdown drive (6 points), a two-point conversion (Vikings Win and Pick), and a Field Goal off a turnover (additional score for Cowboys division title) for a total of 11 points in the first quarter.

Fibonacci Stakes III | Week 13 Picks

The Analysts picks are in:

The Bookie: Dolphins*/Cowboys/*Patriots
Big Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Rams*
Little Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Raiders
Wise Orangutan: Chargers*/Seahawks*/Patriots
The Strategist: Rams*/Seahawks/Bears
Kal Krome: Seahawks*/Cowboys*/49ers*
B-Reezy: Cowboys*/Seahawks/Raiders
Atwork: Vikings*/Seahawks*/Bears

Base trifecta is worth 5 points in the final leg of the Fibonacci Stakes.

* Denotes Fibonacci bonus picks (none possible in Leg 1).

Race Day Notes:

For the next 8 weeks I will ask each of you to reflect on your strategies and how they are working.

Our third muse will be from B-Reezy.

B-Reezy: “Hmmm. Each week I witness my lead grow stronger and the taste of near victory becomes more and more sweet, as it becomes evident that I will be crowned Analyst of the Year. An event long prophesied in the annals of fantasy lore. Your attempts at upheaval have been, at best, minuscule and they show to be ever more pathetic as the end draws nigh. Learn your hymn’s of praise for your new master, for they shall soon be warranted.”

The Results Are In!

The Bookie: Dolphins*/Cowboys/*Patriots
Big Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Rams*
Little Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Raiders (7 points)
Wise Orangutan: Chargers*/Seahawks*/Patriots
The Strategist: Rams*/Seahawks/Bears
Kal Krome: Seahawks*/Cowboys*/49ers*
B-Reezy: Cowboys*/Seahawks/Raiders (6 points)
Atwork: Vikings*/Seahawks*/Bears

Down the homestretch, B-Reezy finishes at a blazing gallop and distances himself from his followers. Little Tuna adeptly trails the frontrunner to notch her first trifecta of the Fibonacci.

The rest of the field stumbles on a bad trip over the unique picks designed to avoid the Box Out by B-Reezy.

** Trip: The course followed by a horse and rider during the running of a race and describes the “trouble” encountered. A horse that had a “good trip” did not encounter any unusual difficulty. A “bad trip” might involve racing wide, or being boxed in by other horses.

Mathematically speaking…

In the end, there was no way for any other Analyst to overtake B-Reezy as he scored a 6-point trifecta to add to his 3 point lead (8 points was the maximum possible in leg 5 of the Fibonacci Stakes).

Base trifecta is worth 3 points in this leg of the Fibonacci Stakes.

* Denotes Fibonacci bonus picks (none possible in Leg 1).

Race Day Notes:

Thank you all for the privilege I have had to interview each and everyone of you. Your candidness has been appreciated.

For the next 8 weeks I will ask each of you to reflect on your strategies and how they are working.

Our second muse will be from Little Tuna!

Little Tuna: Ahhh. Little Tuna. As I take this time to reflect on this years football season, I am not sad. Not sad about the stupid Bears. Not sad about the damn Vikings. Not sad about the pathetic Panthers. I feel only joy. Joy because even if Romo were to return, God help us, I am the only one who has won BOTH TROPHIES and 120 DOLLARS!!

The Clearinghouse: “120 DOLLARS” is a euphemism for 3 regular season races and implies no actual exchange of monies.

The Results Are In!

The Bookie: Dolphins*/Cowboys*/Vikings*
Big Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Rams*
Little Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Bears*
Wise Orangutan: Chargers/Seahawks*/Cowboys*
The Strategist: Rams*/Cowboys*/Vikings*
Kal Krome: Seahawks*/Cowboys*/49ers
B-Reezy: Cowboys*/Dolphins/Lions (4 points)
Atwork: *Vikings/Cowboys*/Seahawks*

Around the final turn, B-Reezy once again show the lead with the sole trifecta of the week for 4 points.

Wise Orangutan and The Bookie stumble on their third pick in the far turn.

The rest of the field notches only a single correct pick after the Seahawks and Vikings encounter a “bad trip” just before entering the home stretch to determine the pretenders and contenders of November.

** Trip: The course followed by a horse and rider during the running of a race and describes the “trouble” encountered. A horse that had a “good trip” did not encounter any unusual difficulty. A “bad trip” might involve racing wide, or being boxed in by other horses.

Mathematically speaking…

The Cowboys, Dolphins, and Raiders offered the only option to maximize Fibonacci bonus points in the 4th leg of the Fibonacci Stakes. Three picks two weeks in a row with a selection of those teams would have yielded 3 *base* trifecta points and 3 *bonus* trifecta points, for a total of 6 trifecta points and the lead.

The Strategist: Rams*/Cowboys*/Vikings*
Kal Krome: Seahawks*/Cowboys*/Cardinals
B-Reezy: Cowboys*/Seahawks/Raiders
Atwork: Vikings*/Cowboys*/Seahawks*

Base trifecta is worth 2 points in this leg of the Fibonacci Stakes.

Our first muse will be from Big Tuna!

Big Tuna: “I should have stuck to college football. Alabama football has never made me feel like I know about as much about football as a five year old princess.” 👸

The Results Are In!

The Bookie: Dolphins*/Cowboys*/Vikings* (5 points)
Big Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Rams*
LittleTuna: *Cowboys/Seahawks*/Bears
Wise Orangutan: Cowboys/Seahawks*/Raiders (3 points)
The Strategist: Rams*/Cowboys*/Vikings*
Kal Krome: Seahawks*/Cowboys*/Cardinals
B-Reezy: Cowboys*/Seahawks/Raiders (3 points)
Atwork: Vikings*/Cowboys*/Seahawks* (5 points)

Normalcy comes to the football season as five of five teams with winning records notch another victory in the crucial month of November!

The Bookie and Atwork, shaking up** their Home Teams, sprint down the backstretch with 3 Correct Fibonacci bonus picks (5 points).

Analyst of the Year frontrunner B-Reezy (3 points) continues to hold his Home Team off the pace while playing the form of the other Analysts’ horse senses. Wise Orangutan, though boxed out by B-Reezy, follows the leader for 3 points.

Big Tuna and The Strategist suffers another bad “trip”** in the closing furlong of the backstretch as Jeff Fisher gives the Analysts one more insight into football prognostications: Never pick a team whose coach hand rides*** his rookie quarterback.

Little Tuna and Kal Krome add two Correct Picks to hold pace.

* Shake up: Urging by the jockey, either with his hands or the whip, to make the horse run faster.

** Trip: The course followed by a horse and rider during the running of a race and describes the “trouble” encountered. A horse that had a “good trip” did not encounter any unusual difficulty. A “bad trip” might involve racing wide, or being boxed in by other horses.

*** Hand ride: A jockey that is urging a horse on by “scrubbing” his hand up and down its neck. A horse under only a hand ride was not whipped by the jockey.

Mathematically speaking…

The Cowboys, Seahawks, Dolphins, and Vikings offered several different options to maximize Fibonacci bonus points in the 3rd leg of the Fibonacci Stakes. Three picks two weeks in a row with a selection of those teams would have yielded 2 *base* trifecta points and 3 *bonus* trifecta points, for a total of 5 trifecta points and the lead.

Fibonacci Stakes III | Week 10 Picks

The Analysts picks are in:

The Bookie: Dolphins*/Cowboys*/Vikings*
Big Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Rams
LittleTuna: Cowboys*/Vikings*/Seahawks*
Wise Orangutan: Chargers*/Jets*/Seahawks*
The Strategist: Rams*/Cowboys*/Vikings*
Kal Krome: Seahawks*/Jets*/Cowboys*
B-Reezy: Bears/Vikings/Cowboys*
Atwork: Vikings*/Cowboys*/Seahawks*

* Denotes Fibonacci bonus picks (none possible in Leg 1).

Race Day Notes:

The Bookie will post the gamed day musings in hindsight of one Analyst each week. Wise Orangutan submits these thoughts:

Stupid Jeff Fisher commits to his loser-y quarterback for another week, so I make my pick — Jets will win! Then I learn on Sunday morning that the Jets plan to start a rookie against one of the absolute best defenses in the league. That is a no-brainer…. What is the New York state-of-mind? Did they legalize the 420 goo during the election? Oy vey!

I bet the Jets lose, 9-6. The next week, stupid Jeff Fisher will switch to his rookie quarterback simply because he feels vindicated! The surging Dolphins will then pound his delicate-flower-rookie-quarterback into the grassy turf! Suh-meat!

Are there mulligans in a game of prediction?

The Results Are In!

The Bookie: Dolphins*/Cowboys*/Vikings*
Big Tuna: Cowboys*/Seahawks*/Rams (3 points)
LittleTuna: Cowboys*/Vikings*/Seahawks*
Wise Orangutan: Chargers*/Jets*/Seahawks*
The Strategist: Rams*/Cowboys*/Vikings*
Kal Krome: Seahawks*/Jets*/Cowboys*
B-Reezy: Bears/Vikings/Cowboys*
Atwork: Vikings*/Cowboys*/Seahawks*

Boldly picking three Home Teams on the road, Big Tuna takes a second trifecta in the Fibonacci Stakes and distance himself from the plundering Vikings blundering Norsemen of the competition.

The two Analysts who avoided the sinking ship in Minnesota, nonetheless ran their planes off the causeway in LaGuardia airport after a horned beast pushed the Jets into the Hudson.

Most Analysts make two Correct Picks, as Wise Orangutan and B-Reezy settle for one Correct Pick in the tenth week of the season.

Mathematically speaking…

The Cowboys, Seahawks, and Dolphins were the best option in the first two legs of the Fibonacci. Those three picks two weeks in a row would have yielded 1 *base* trifecta points and 3 *bonus* trifecta points, for a total of 4 trifecta points and a share of the lead.

Each week The Bookie will interview one Analyst.
This week the Bookie interviewed The Bookie.

The Bookie: Bookie, after two years, you have never won a purse. Looks like this year will be no different as you’ve only had one trifecta so far. Because you see everyone’s picks before they are posted have you ever thought about changing your picks after you’ve seen theirs? In other words, cheat.

The Bookie: I can’t believe you’d ever question the integrity of The Bookie! I would never *cough* never *cough*…. I’ve got no further comment.
