Kal Krome and Wise Orangutan had to pick new Home Teams as the Seahawks and Ravens failed to make the postseason. Kal Krome selects Vikings with the first pick and Wise O. selects Atlanta with the second pick.

A trifecta (pick three correctly) is worth 3 points in the Wildcard round for all Analysts.

Analyst who correctly pick Home Teams that are playing in the Wildcard round may earn Reverse PCFecta points: 2 for the best defensive effort (lowest score by an opponent) and 1 for the best offensive effort (highest score by the Home Team). The #1 and #2 seeds are not eligible for PCFecta points in the wildcard round.

In the AFC, the Titans are un-owned and will earn 1 Player Hater point as well as 1 Seeder Redux point if correctly selected to win over the Chiefs. Both the Bills and Jaguars are un-owned so no Player Hater  points are possible. Correctly picking the Bills to upset the Jaguars will yield 3 Seeder Redux points.

In the NFC, all teams are owned so no Player Hater points are possible. The Falcons will award 3 Seeder Redux points in an upset of the Rams and the Panthers will earn 1 Seeder Redux point in an upset of the Saints.

A little history: STB I was won by the shameless Little Tuna with #1 Seed and Super Bowl winner Patriots. So, we tweaked the rules to make the STB II more competitive. The Bookie won with #1 Seed and Super Bowl loser Panthers. In STB III, The Bookie defended her championship with #4 Seed and NFC Championship loser Packers. If the The Game Which Shall Not Be Named was not fixed last year (!), Atwork would have won with #2 Seed Falcons. The Bookie has earned a Trifecta in the wild card round every year and that has proved to be the difference in her victories.

New Home Team Selection Order

One race into the season, racing officials have learned a few Analysts are frustrated with the Home Teams that are not performing as expected.

According to the rules, the order of selection for new teams is by current playoff seeding, worst to first.

The order of picks will be:

1a. B-Reezy (14th seed NFC)*
1b. The Bookie (14th seed AFC)
3. Wise Orangutan (13th seed NFC)
4. Kal Krome (11th seed NFC)
5. Little Tuna (8th seed NFC)
6a. Big Tuna (6th seed AFC)**
6b. Atwork (6th seed NFC)
8. The Strategist (4th seed NFC)
9. Craft Brew (3rd seed AFC)

* B-Reezy has the lesser conference W-L record.
** Big Tuna has the lesser W-L record.

Home Team Swaps

Only one Home Team horse threw a shoe. Raiders QB Carr is out and so is Big Tuna. Big Tuna will be saddling up the Houston Texans for his Home Team. All other Analyst have kept last race ponies (not the small beer bottles) and have rubbed them down and are ready for THE PLAYER HATERS PREAKNESS!!

Player Haters Preakness IV Preparations

The Rules for the Player Haters Preakness may be found here: http://www.roi2partners.com/wftl/the-quaternary-crown/player-haters-preakness/.

The major difference is that Trifecta bonus points are awarded for picking against other Analysts’ Home Teams.

Picks for one’s own Home Team remain the second most important tiebreaker.

Changing Home Teams Between Races

After each of the four Races in the regular season, Analysts have the option of releasing their Home Team and selecting a new team to symbolize their horse sense from those teams not currently owned by other Analysts. If more than one Analyst releases their Home Team at the end of a Race, the new selections will go in order of the former teams’ win-loss records, from worst to best, using the official tie-breaking rules for team playoff ranks in the professional football league. In other words, the Analyst with the worst former team selects first, and so forth, to the best former team.

Super Trifecta Bowl III Preparations

From the General Rules, Analysts may select new Home Teams for the World Football Analyst Championship (aka Super Trifecta Bowl):

The Super Trifecta Bowl follows rules similar to the regular season races. Analysts must own one of the 12 playoff teams as their steed. Analysts whose teams did not make the playoffs and those who wish to drop their playoff steed for a new team will select in order of regular season seeding, from worst to best. Seeding ties for new team selections will be determined by the ranking of Analysts in the Annual Award. As in the regular season, Analysts may not pick against their Home Teams.

Five Analysts backed playoff-bound Home Teams to end the season and three saw their Home Teams fail to make the playoffs. According to the rules, the order of selection for new Home Teams is by current playoff seeding, worst to first.

For the Analysts without playoff teams (bold) and those who release teams, the order of selection is:

1. The Strategist (Rams, NFC 14th)
2. Atwork (Vikings, NFC 9th (tie), AoY 6th)
3. The Bookie (Ravens, AFC 9th (tie), AoY 5th)

Releases and New Home Team Selections

B-Reezy, Wise Orangutan, and The Bookie release their couch-bound ponies as the regular season draws to a close.

The Strategist gives her Home Team a contract extension and Atwork orders his men to row harder! The Tunas and Kal Krome like the view from the top and keep their Home Teams as well.

The three new Home Teams are:

  1. With the first pick. B-Reezy keeps it in the division and selects Detroit.
  2. With the second pick, Wise Orangutan keeps it in the division and selects Kansas City.
  3. With the third pick, The Bookie flies to Baltimore, two-time playoff winner over New England in the past 10 years.

The Clearinghouse will release the Slate of Games for the Seeders’ Cup tomorrow evening. First picks are due Thursday afternoon as Oakland travels to Kansas City for Thursday Night Football!

The revised and complete rules for Super Trifecta Bowl II may be found here.

In short form, the Analysts need only know four things:

1) A correct trifecta (3 picks) earns 3 points in the Wildcard round, 2 points in the Division round, and 1 point in the Championship round.
2) Super Trifecta Points are awarded for a Correct Pick regardless of earning the trifecta.
3) Each time their Home Team wins an Analyst earns Playoff Victory points. If the Analyst correctly picks his or her Home Team, Reverse PCFecta points also may be earned in the round.
4) Correctly picking un-owned teams earn Player Hater points and correctly picking lower seeded teams earn Seeder Redux points in each round.
