PC-Fecta Derby, 2016-17

Final Standings

At the finish, Kal Krome (5 trifecta points) holds off a late threat from The Strategist (4 trifecta points) to win the 2016-17 PC-Fecta Derby! Kal Krome earns his second Quaternary Crown and signals to the other Analysts that the Hawks are not to be trifled with this year — despite falling to the lowly first-place Rams!

Atwork (3 trifecta points) edges past Big Tuna (3 trifecta points) to take 3rd place based on the third tiebreaker: point differentials by the Home Team (9.3 vs. 0.5). The Vikings and Raiders look capable of sacking other Analysts in the coming months.

In fifth with two trifectas, B-Reezy whips his gimpy Bears around the final turn to upset the listless cavalry sponsored by Wise Orangutan (1 trifecta point) .

In seventh, Little Tuna (0 trifecta points) purrs just ahead of The Bookie’s fishy horse (0 trifecta points) based on the third tiebreaker (point differentials, -2.3 > -4.5).

Minds Blank’s trifecta points are under review after submitting Leg 4 picks through unofficial channels. Guido is headed to Washington to investigate what insiders are calling, L’affaire des brownies. Minds Blank is a scratch until further notice.

In the final leg, Big Tuna makes his move and distances himself from the rest of the field. His Home Team Broncos poach the defensive Reverse PC Fecta points from The Bookie in the final game.

Unfortunately for Le Grande Tuna, The Bookie dug deep and willed herself to the finish line.

And the winner of Super Trifecta Bowl II is…

Super Trifecta Bowl II

The Bookie! In The Bookie’s first official win, she started fast with The Strategist and Minds Blank, then kept up her pace just enough to fend off Big Tuna.

Big Tuna’s strategy was to run a steady pace through Super Trifecta Bowl II, and while he did not win, he edges Minds Blank for the place.

Minds Blank started at a blistering pace but gradually lost her advantage in the final rounds, but still proudly shows.

The Strategist and Wise Orangutan finish just behind the winners. Kal Krome made a respectable dash in the first leg, but then ran into the seeder redux improbabilities.

At the back, Little Tuna edges B-Reezy by a nose for seventh position on the basis of her Home Team’s Playoff Victory points in the Divisional Round.

A round of applause to all the players for another fine year of competition to be the Analyst with the best horse sense in World Professional Football Analysis!

Analyst of the Year II

A nail-biter to the end!

In the final week of the Annual competition, two Analysts remained in contention for the coveted Horse’s Anal(yst) of the Year Trophy and purse.

Pulling a rope-a-dope, Little Tuna wisely chose not to pick her Home Team Patriots to win in Miami. Nevertheless, she saw her lead diminish to the narrowest of margins in the final moments of the season as the Seahawks put a first-half beat down on her tricky pick, the Cardinals, ending her hopes for a decisive trifecta victory.

Scrappy to the last moments of the season, The Strategist exploited the Little Tuna’s error and tried to ride her Rams to victory. Greg the Leg lined up for the game-winning field goal that would have sent the Analyst of the Year Award into a playoff… and missed! The Rams’ opponent then countered with a game-winning field goal.

In a photo finish, the Analyst of the Year Award goes to…. Little Tuna!

With seven trifectas and 37 correct picks, Little Tuna moves from worst to first from Season I to Season II and proves her mettle in this game of skill!

The remaining Analysts finished in:

2nd place | The Strategist  | 6 trifectas and 36 correct picks
3rd place | The Bookie | 5 trifectas and 32 correct picks
4th place | Big Tuna | 4 trifectas and 33 correct picks
5th place | Wise Orangutan  | 4 trifectas and 32 correct picks
6th place | Kal Krome | 4 trifectas and 30 correct picks
7th place – Tie | B-Reezy | 2 trifectas and 30 correct picks
7th place – Tie | Minds Blank | 2 trifectas and 30 correct picks

Seeders’ Cup, 2015-16

Final Standings

A grueling finish to the 2015-16 regular racing season as the Analysts fail to earn one trifecta in the final two legs of the Seeders’ Cup. Nobody was able to close the distance with the early leader and the winner is….

Little Tuna! On the strength of her early picks, Little Tuna wins the Cup with 11 points. In second place, after an unprecedented four trifecta winning streak that began in the Fibonacci Stakes, Kal Krome finishes second with 6 points.

The Bookie takes 3rd place after bearing down (and then downed by the Bears) to end with 5 points. In fourth place with 3 points, The Strategist experienced the agony of defeat after a missed field goal in overtime. Wise Orangutan ends in 5th place, knowing what it truly is like to be a Jets fan.

Minds Blank, Big Tuna, and B-Reezy taking a beating in the final month of the season. Based on tiebreakers, they finish 6th, 7th, and 8th, respectively.

Fibonacci Stakes, 2015-16

Final Standings

Another come from behind victory in the Fibonacci Stakes!

Heading into the final leg, The Bookie and B-Reezy were in fierce competition for first place. The Bookie stuck with the same three teams in Leg 5 to hold off the competition with 8 more points. B-Reezy changed one selection to include the Vikings in head-to-head competition with the Hawks for 7 more points. Kal Krome, who trailed The Bookie and B-Reezy by one length and needed help to overtake the leaders, changed two picks and rode for only 6 more points.

After the Patriots spill against Eagles and the Bears failure to kick enough dirt to hold off the 49ers, Kal Krome sprinted from the outside to take first place with 11 points!

Closing strong in the final leg, Minds Blank rode her Packers to 8 points to take 2nd place (based on second tiebreaker). The Strategist also held her teams in Leg 5 to finish with 8 points and third place (based on third tiebreaker). Big Tuna, sticking with his three teams, also finished strong with 8 points and fourth place.

Wise Orangutan lumbered into 5th place with 7 points. The Bookie and B-Reezy, winded in the final stretch, finish in 6th and 7th place, respectively.

Ah, Little Tuna…. What can we say. An 8th place finish after her dastardly Patriots collapse on special teams play. If only Tom Terrific could play defense and special teams…. No, wait, he threw a hundred yard pick-six and made one of the most awkward attempts at a tackle ever captured on film. Perhaps, next month!

Standings | Player Haters Preakness II | Final Results

Player Haters Preakness, 2015-16

Final Standings

A classic photo finish in the 2015-16 Player Haters Preakness. The Big Tuna came out of nowhere to earn the only perfect hater picks of 2015-16 and earn 3 trifecta points for the show (3rd). The Little Tuna tried to sneak around the outside with her buggy pony and earned two trifecta points to place (2nd).

In Monday’s game, The Bookie and The Strategist battled for first place pole-to-pole. The Colts overtime defeat to the Panthers caused The Bookie to stumble at the very end and end in fourth place. The Strategist, riding the Rams, took first place by a full length with the Panthers win. The Rams also ended the Preakness with the most turnovers per game, proving to be the players haters MVT (most valuable team).

Four Analysts suffered four Black Eyes during the Preakness, earning zero trifectas in the month.

PC-Fecta Derby, 2015-16

Final Standings

At the finish, Little Tuna (6 points) holds her lead and wins the 2015-16 PC-Fecta Derby! Little Tuna earns her first title in the Quaternary Crown and extends her winning streak to two races.

With a late surge, the Wise Orangutan (4 points) edges past The Strategist (4 points) to take 2nd place due to the third tiebreaker for average point differentials by the Home Team (-3.5 vs. -3.8 – yes, those are negative point differentials by the Home Teams!). In fourth, Minds Blank (2 points) inches past the Big Tuna (2 points) on the basis of four correct Home Team picks.

In sixth, The Bookie (1 point) holds off  a charge by B-Reezy (1 point) with two correct Home Team picks. Kal Krome held out the first two weeks of the Derby and never gained last year’s form.

Recap: Super Trifecta Bowl I

At the Start of the Championship Round…

Wise Orangutan, The Strategist, and Big Tuna were eliminated from the World Football Analyst Championship in the divisional round.  Unfortunately, for the three horseless Analysts, no un-owned teams remained from which to earn hater and seeder points against other Analysts with playoff contending teams.

The Bookie rode the Colts to a three point lead with their defeat of the Broncos. The hopes of Kal Krome and Minds Blank rested on the outcome of their Home Teams conference championship: Seahawks vs. Packers. Little Tuna, quietly practicing the deflation of footballs in a small closet in eastern Massachusetts, held third place to the start the conference championship weekend.

And the Winner Is…

Little Tuna!

The Little Tuna edged Kal Krome and The Bookie by a PCFecta: her Tunadipidity.  The first Horse’s Anal(yst) of the Year, Minds Blank, failed to place, but nonetheless honored her fine season.  The rest of our stupendous Analysts ran well enough to win one Race earlier in the season, but faltered down the stretch.

The final results of Super Trifecta Bowl I are found below.

Until next season, Analysts!

Final Standings – Super Trifecta Bowl I

1) Little Tuna, 14 points
2) The Bookie, 13 points (5 base trifecta points)
3) Kal Krome, 13 points (3 base trifecta points)
4) Minds blank, 9 points
5) Big Tuna, 2 points

Recap: Season I – Analyst of the Year Award

Heading into the Final Week of the Racing Season…

Four Analysts remained in contention for the Analyst of the Year Award in the final week of the racing season.

Kal Krome, the only Analyst to earn Trifecta Points in every Race of the Quaternary Crown, held sole position of the lead with six trifectas. Minds Blank, Big Tuna, and The Orangutan tied with five trifectas. Minds Blank, who had never selected less than two correct winners each week, held the tiebreaker over the other two Analysts for second place. Big Tuna held the tiebreaker over The Orangutan for third place. Kal Krome held the inside position – if all contending Analysts failed to earn trifectas, then Kal held onto his lead.
Otherwise, the scenarios were:
Analyst of the Year I Final Week Scenarios
Final Week Scenarios for Season I – Analyst of the Year
Note: The Clearinghouse made an error. If Kal Krome missed his trifecta in Week 17, the other Analysts had their opportunity according to overall pick standings.

And, the Winner of the First Analyst of the Year Award Goes to…

Minds Blank!

Minds Blank, winner of the Seeders’ Cup, never picked less than two teams correctly over the course of the racing season. In a three way trifecta tie with Big Tuna and Kal Krome, she finishes in first place by a nose (38 correct picks). Big Tuna with 35 picks, and winner of the PC-Fecta Derby, edges Kal Krome with 34 picks to take second place.

The Orangutan, winner of the Player Haters Preakness, finishes in fourth place with 5 trifectas. The Strategist, winner of the Fibonacci Stakes, finishes in fifth with 4 trifectas.

The Bookie and Little Tuna finish in a tie for sixth place.

For the record: Week 1 was not included in the Analyst of the Year standings. Kal Krome and Minds Blank entered the competition in Week 2. This is not without some controversy since Big Tuna correctly picked the most trifectas (7) over the entire 17 weeks. Perhaps there may be some bad blood between Big Tuna and Minds Blank heading into Season II…

Recap: Season I – Seeders’ Cup

Heading into the Final Leg…

All Analysts were in contention for the Seeders’ Cup. The Clearinghouse outlined the football playoff scenarios:

Seeders Cup I Final Week Scenarios
Final Week Scenarios for Season I – Seeders Cup

The Winner Is…

Minds Blank!

Minds Blank takes the first Seeders Cup with 3 trifectas and 19 trifecta points. Big Tuna finishes strong with a 2nd trifecta and 12 points total. Kal Krome stumbles at the final turn and finishes in third place.

The rest of the field registered only one trifecta during the Seeders’ Cup. That is actually an improvement over the PC-Fecta Derby for two Analysts! The remaining Analysts will be fighting for their positions in training camp next season…
