Season VIII begins with continuing uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once again, the Analysts have chosen not to adopt special rules for canceled games or convalescing Home Teams. There are however established procedures for Picks. We will remind the Analysts of the Picks procedures in a later post.
Season VIII | Starting Home Team Claims
A second reminder that the order of the Standing during Season VIII reflects the final rankings for Analyst of the Year VII for the thirteen returning Analysts. Mo Money is racing in her inaugural season!
After seven seasons, the WFTL has its first two-time Crown Champion of the PC-Fecta Derby. Was it Big Tuna (the man who put the PC in PC-Fecta!)? Jimmy V (the only colt or filly to Win since Season I)? Little Tuna (winning-est Analyst in WFTL history)? Craft Brew (Defending Champion)? Kal Krome (from out of retirement)? No. No. No. No. And. No.
Atwork led PC-Fecta Derby VII wire-to-wire on his green-and-yellow-hot thoroughbred rode by the “I-am-as-old-as-my-Wonderlic-score (35)” jock(ey)! With 25 Trifecta points and 24 Bonus points, he Wins with 49 points — and over one-quarter length of the track (+17 points) ahead of second place!!!
Wise Orangutan–who has asked The Clearinghouse to point out that he did not change any Derby rules this season!–started slow but closed strong with the offense bonus points. He Browns out the competition to Place with 31 points at the finish.
Big Tuna Shows with 27 points, oh so close to the Purse (and wondering how it is that Wise O. always snatches away his payouts!).
KateTDid, Craft Brew, The Stategist and Jimmy V can only ponder what might have been if not for The Equine Plague.
Jimmy V (26) finishes in fourth place on base Trifecta points. Craft Brew (24) edges out Little Tuna (24) for fifth place based on third tiebreaker (7.3 point differential per game [pdpg] vs. 7.0 pdpg).
The Strategist (23) trots to the line on a Monday in seventh place. In eighth place, The Bookie (22) on the inside rail handily pushes B-Reezy (22) to the outside rail for ninth place on second tiebreaker (4 Correct Home Team Picks to his 1 Correct Home Team Pick).
KateTDid (21) ends in tenth place, ahead of Sponge Mom in eleventh (20). Roxy Trot‘s (16) nag, plagued by injuries, drags her down to twelfth place. Woody (10) cowpokes to the finish in last place.

At 18 points, Craft Brew, The Bookie, and KateTDid remain in strong position. All three have 3 Correct Home Team Picks and are separated only by pdpg (in order of mentions) for fifth, sixth, and seventh places.
At 17 points, The Strategist, Little Tuna, and Wise Orangutan seek a path out of eighth, ninth, and tenth place. These three Analysts each have 2 Correct Home Team Picks, and are separated (again) by pdpg in the order listed.
Roxy Trot holds eleventh place with 16 points, trailed by Sponge Mom (13) in twelfth and Woody (10) bringing up the rear. All three can come from the back of the field to take second place with 11 or more points in the final Leg!
Atwork (28 points) continues to run at a break neck speed down the far strectch! With two *base* Trifectas, two *extra* points, and two best Home Team Offense bonuses, he hits the near turn with a 11 point lead.

Craft Brew, The Bookie, and KateTDid compete for sixth place. Again separated only by third tiebreaker, Craft Brew (10) and The Bookie (10) are in a dead heat for sixth, while KateDid (2) trails in eighth place.
Four Analysts seek to separate from the back of the field with 3 points each. The Slate of Games for PC-Fecta Derby VII includes seven head-to-head competitions during the month (the first tiebreaker in the race), but Leg 2 may prove to be key as an open sprint with 13 games and no head-to-head competitions!
In Leg 1, the clubhouse turn, we kick off the season with Wise Orangutan’s Blotches visiting the Rav-ing Big Tuna in Baltimore and the pirate who stole the Bucs, Little Tuna, challenging the fleur-de-lis, Sponge Mom. In Leg 3, the near turn, Atwork Packs-up for the Big Easy to contest Saints-ly Sponge Mom, while The Strategist leads her First Nation against Big Tuna’s Nevermores. Down the home stretch, Leg 4, the competition heats up as Wise O. attempts to expose the Brown-stain on the chaps of Woody’s Cowboys, Craft Brew tries to Steel-ers a win from Kate-TDid’s Buccaneers Titanic-disappointment, and Jimmy V marches Patriot-ically against The Strategist’s Custer-Busters.
Home teams owned by an Analyst are in bold. The team at the left is the visiting team; the team at the right is the host (playing at home). There are many featured games: two Thursday nights (TNF), all four Sunday nights (SNF), and all five Monday nights (MNF – a first!).
None of the Home Teams are on a bye-week during PC-Fecta Derby VII!

Remember: Every Analyst has a bias for his or her Home Team and may NOT pick their Claimed team to lose. Analysts do not have to pick his or her Home Team to win, but *bonus* trifecta points are won only if Analysts include the Home Team in a *base* or *lame* Trifecta. See the Derby Rules for more.
Email picks in private to The Bookie before each Leg (week) of the Race. Thursday games are due by 2pm on Thursdays (flexible per The Bookie’s time in special circumstances). All Sunday and Monday Picks are due on Saturdays at 2pm. No Picks for games after kickoffs are accepted.
No revisions (Re-Picks) are possible after the Picks have been released to all Analysts by The Bookie.
