Analyst of the Year VII

Entering the near turn of the Marathon of the Ass, we have our first change of lead during Season VII! In the first eight weeks, Jimmy V set the pace for the field. But, a former Analyst of the Year (in a state of mind to streak!) earns his 3rd straight Trifecta!

Big Tuna moves into sole possession of first place with 6 Trifectas and 22 Correct Picks. It is a precarious lead, as he is followed by one length in second place by Jimmy V, The Strategist, and Wise Orangutan (that must be an error!), each at 5 Trifectas and 22 Correct Picks (as well).

Leading the middle of the field B-Reezy (4 Trifectas, 21 Correct Picks) and Craft Brew (4 Trifectas and 20 Correct Picks) give chase in fifth and sixth place, respectively. At 3 Trifectas each, Atwork (21 Correct Picks) is in seventh place, Woody (19 Correct Picks) is in eighth place, Little Tuna (18 Correct Picks) is in ninth place, and The Bookie (17 Correct Picks) is in tenth place.

Trailing with 2 Trifectas each, Sponge Mom (19 Correct Picks) and KateTDid (17 Correct Picks) are in eleventh and twelfth place, while Roxy Trot (1 Trifecta and 16 Correct Picks) is poised to fly like an Eagle the rest of the season!

Analyst of the Year VII

A tough, tough back stretch in the Marathon of the Ass. For the second time in four weeks, only two Analysts notch the Trifecta and overall only two Analysts added two Trifectas during the month (Big Tuna and Woody).

Jimmy V now finds himself in a tie with Big Tuna at 5 Trifectas each. On Correct Picks, Jimmy V (20) leads by only one head over his nearest challenger, Big Tuna (19)!

Still within striking distance of the lead, B-Reezy, The Strategist and Wise Orangutan are in a dead heat for third place with 4 Trifectas and 19 Correct Picks each.

In the middle of the field with 3 Trifectas, Atwork (19 Correct Picks) holds sixth place by a half length over Craft Brew and Woody (17 Correct Picks each) in a tie for seventh place. Little Tuna (16 Correct Picks) climbs out of the fish bowl to join the middle of the field in ninth place.

At the back with 2 Trifectas, Sponge Mom (17 Correct Picks) drops one place to tenth place, KateTDid (16 Correct Picks) slips into in eleventh place, and The Bookie (14 Correct Picks) hangs in twelfth position. Roxy Trot (1 Trifecta and 14 Correct Picks) in thirteenth place has been decidedly injury-struck by fool’s gold.

Several Analysts find their stride in Week 7 and get back on track to take Analyst of the Year accolades!

Once again, Jimmy V (5 Trifectas, 18 Correct Picks) clings onto his lead over a handful of Analysts — including three former Analysts of the Year — who trail only one length behind!

Standing out, The Strategist (4 Trifectas, 18 Correct Picks) is in sole possession of second place. B-Reezy and Wise Orangutan are in a dead heat for third place with 4 Trifectas and 17 Correct Picks. Big Tuna (4 Trifectas, 16 Correct Picks) stays within striking distance of the Winner’s Circle in fifth place.

In the middle of the field with 3 Trifectas each, Atwork (17 Correct Picks) holds sixth place by a head over Craft Brew (16 Correct Picks) in seventh place, and two heads in front of Woody (15 Correct Picks), who has quickly separated from the back of the field to take eighth position.

At the rear with 2 Trifectas, Sponge Mom (15 Correct Picks) soaks up ninth place, KateTDid (14 Correct Picks) flutters in tenth place, Little Tuna (13 Correct Picks) flops in eleventh place, and The Bookie (12 Correct Picks) puts her thumb on the wrong side of the scale in twelfth position.

Roxy Trot (1 Trifecta and 12 Correct Picks) paces in thirteenth place, still uncertain of whether her Home Team is a Thoroughbred or a Standardbred!

Analyst of the Year VII

The back stretch of the Marathon of the Ass is proving to be a heavy track. Only three Trifectas in two weeks from our field of thirteen Analysts. After 6 weeks, the Trifecta rate (Total Trifectas divided by Possible Trifectas) has fallen to 42% — the WFTL average over the first six seasons! The more things change…

As the only Analyst with a Trifecta rate above 50%, Jimmy V leads by a length with 4 Trifectas and 15 Correct Picks. A streaker by disposition (he earned 7 of his 10 Trifectas in Season VI during an eight week stretch!), he may be in another slump…Fortunately for him, none of the competition seems to be getting close enough to see Jimmy V go streaking again!

Within striking distance of the lead with 3 Trifectas and (also) 15 Correct Picks, Atwork and The Strategist give no ground to the front runner, sharing second place.

At 3 Trifectas and 14 Correct Picks, Craft Brew moves up into a tie for fourth place with B-Reezy and Wise Orangutan. Big Tuna slips into seventh place at 3 Trifectas and 13 Correct Picks..

In a tie for eighth place, Sponge Mom and KateTDid gain some separation from the back of the field with 2 Trifectas and 13 Correct Picks (+2) in Week 6. Woody gallops from the back of the field to take tenth place alone with 2 Trifectas and 12 Correct Picks.

The Bookie and Little Tuna struggle to add to their Correct Picks total, falling down the board into a tie for eleventh place 2 Trifectas and 11 Correct Picks. Roxy Trot (1 Trifecta and 10 Correct Picks) closes some of the Correct Pick deficit, but still trails in thirteenth position.

Analyst of the Year VII

Coming around the clubhouse turn of the Marathon of the Ass, the field begins to separate!

With a record-breaking four Trifectas to start a season, Jimmy V holds onto first place by a length over a gaggle of contenders. He maintains a one length lead over his closest challengers. His path to victory is not yet clear, however, as…

Former Analysts of the Year, Big Tuna and The Strategist, three-time Winner’s Circle stalwart, Craft Brew, and the perennial also-ran, Wise Orangutan, trail in a tie for second place with 3 Trifectas and 11 Correct Picks. One step by Jimmy V and any of these four can close the distance for the lead.

Analyst-in-spirit Sir Dog (RIP) rolled over in his grave when Atwork made an un-Bearable Pick in Week 4 (faintly from underground: “What kind of Packers fan are you!”).

Defending Analyst of the Year Atwork falls into a tie for sixth place with B-Reezy, Sponge Mom, The Bookie, KateTDid, and Little Tuna — each at 2 Trifectas and 10 Correct Picks.

(Sidebar from below: “The other five are Bears fans, Atwork…I can’t intercede with my dark forces on your behalf when you side with Les Bêtes Noires*!”).

At the back of the field, Roxy Trot (1 Trifecta, 8 Correct Picks) hobbles in twelfth place and Woody (1 Trifecta, 7 Correct Picks) spits the bit in Allas**!!!

With three Trifectas in three weeks, we have our first front runner of the season! Jimmy V moves one length ahead of his closest challengers in the past week.

Much of the field is bunched up with 2 Trifectas and 8 Correct Picks. Atwork, Craft Brew, B-Reezy, The Bookie, Big Tuna, The Strategist, Wise Orangutan, and KateTDid vie for second place.

Roxy Trot, Sponge Mom, Little Tuna and Woody trail with 1 Trifecta each, with unexpected poor starts by Home Teams (1-2 records) and player injuries (SF) and best-days-behind-me-ism (TB) largely to blame…[Double entendre: note that TB can mean Tom Brady or Tampa Bay. Ha ha!!!]

Two weeks into the new season and all but four Analysts have a busted Trifecta!

Atwork, Jimmy V, Big Tuna and The Strategist lead with perfect 2-0 records. Will any tie last year’s opening pace of three Trifectas in a row???

All but one Analyst trail with a 1 Trifecta. A big group are bunched up at 5 Correct Picks each , with Woody trailing by a head with 4 Correct Picks.

Little Tuna brings up the rear, struggling to determine when it’s best to Pick the Brady-neers or the Beli-triots.

Atwork and Jimmy V put the Analysts on notice that the sixth season of Analyst of the Year was no fluke!

To start Season VII, the top two Analysts are joined by Sponge Mom, Big Tuna, and The Strategist as the Analysts to start Season VII with a Trifecta.

Seven Analysts sputter out of the gates with 2 Correct Picks in a tie for sixth place, while Woody trails after her Cowboys spit the McCarthy bit on a questionable fourth down decision.

As the Analysts enter the near turn, nine Claimed winners to begin the year, three had competitors in the opening stretch, and only one Analyst stained his good (ok, mediocre) reputation with a glue mule.
